ABSTRACT
The article discusses the outbreak of Streptococcus suis (S. Suis) infection in Sichuan, China. S. Suis usually affects pigs, but the epidemic in Sichuan is worrying scientist and health officials. Symptoms of streptococcal toxic shock syndrome were seen in patients infected with S. suis. A report made by George Gao and colleagues from Chinese health institutions found that the outbreak was caused by a S. Suis strain with different characteristics compared to those infecting pigs.
