ABSTRACT
The article focuses on a study related to effectiveness of human parathyroid hormone (hPTH) in patients with severe osteoporosis. The study involved randomized controlled trials that compared hPTH with placebo or an active comparator in postmenopausal women or men with osteoporosis. The study findings revealed that, in patients with severe osteoporosis, hPTH reduces risk for fractures and increases bone mineral density of the lumbar spine and femoral neck.
