ABSTRACT
The article reports on the announcement of the U.S. Department of Education that public school districts can now create all-boys or all-girls classes and schools. A 1972 law generally prohibits the separation of boys and girls in public schools and classes, except for things like physical education. The new rule makes it easier to get an exception. Now, schools can separate boys and girls as long as enrollment is voluntary and classes that include boys and girls are also offered.
