ABSTRACT
The article discusses some advantages of hybrid laser arc welding in manufacturing processes in the automotive and shipbuilding industry. These include low distortion, high speed and natural automation. Restrictions in laser welding such as limited ability to connect gaps can be reduced by using the hybrid technique between laser and arc welding. The Odense Steel Shipyard in Denmark was motivated to use the laser welding because of the reduction in distortion.
