ABSTRACT
The article reports on the manufacturing of fused-silica capillary gas chromatography (GC) columns. Fused-silica columns deliver general and application-specific separations with higher mechanical stability and lower bleed levels. Sodium, borosilicate and fused-silica are the three basic types of silica glass used for making capillary columns. The manufacturing of fused-silica columns has become a sophisticated procedure that requires precision machinery and highly trained specialists.
