ABSTRACT
The article examines the theology of Hans Urs von Balthasar concerning the descent of Christ into hell after the crucifixion. Traditional church doctrine sees the death on the cross as the beginning of Christ's triumph. Balthasar argued that Christ suffered in hell as well. One author writes against this latter view and the other defends it.
