ABSTRACT
The article profiles Tom Kuntz, fire chief in Red Lodge, Montana, who was chosen as Fire Chief's 2006 Volunteer Chief of the Year. Kuntz stated that while he was attending college, a friend told him to join the fire department. He first served with the Ithaca department in New York. In 1992, Kuntz applied for the assistant fire chief position at Red Lodge and got the job. At present, he is responsible for the city fire department, the rural fire department and the ambulance service.
