ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the result of the testing made on the effectiveness of unsaturated polyester resin (UPR) in fire protection, which was conducted by Baltimore, Maryland-based fire protection consulting firm Hughes Associates Inc. The tests have revealed that palletized storage of UPR in steel drums can be protected by sprinklers when the exposure fire involves spilled resin. Moreover, UPR responds better to sprinkler discharge than the common Class IB and IC flammable liquids.
