The article reports on the growth of Singapore's petrochemical industry. The government promoted the region as a chemicals hub, with petrochemicals now one of the top-three sectors in terms of total manufacturing output. The Shell Eastern Petrochemical Complex on Bukom Island which is expected to become operational in 2009, will strengthen Singapore's position as a regional hub for supplying to emerging markets such as India and China.
