ABSTRACT
The article reports on the impact of a restructuring charge of $579m related to global plant shutdowns on Dow Chemical's third-quarter 2006 results, prompting earnings before interest and tax to fall 39% to $777m. The company's sales rose by 10% to record third quarter levels of $12.4bn, lifted by price rises across the operating segments. Net income dropped to $512m, from $801m in the third quarter of 2005.
