The article discusses the issues related to urban air pollution, particularly in Great Britain. The previous main source of air pollution in Britain was coal burning, which produced smoke and sulfur dioxide. However, the primary source of air pollution in British cities is now motor vehicles, resulting in a large decline in the concentration of particles and sulfur dioxide, but little change in oxides of nitrogen and carbon monoxide.
