ABSTRACT
This article reports on the market performance of the Clean Shower household cleaner in the U.S. as of September 27, 1999. The product generated sales of nearly $77 million in 1998, an increase of over 300%. Media advertising spending patterns seem to indicate the Shower Shine cleaner will stay in the market, because S.C. Johnson & Son is backing the product with first-year spending of $9.4 million through the first five months of 1999. Clorox blamed the promotions of S.C. Johnson for declining sales of its Tilex Fresh Shower cleaner in the second quarter, one of the factors that caused Clorox sales and stock prices to falter in the period.
