ABSTRACT
This article explores the market performance of station wagons in the U.S. in 1999. For the first six months, total station wagon registrations reached 125,279 or an increase of 9.1%. BMW is scheduled to introduce its X-5 sport wagon in fall, followed by the S-Type luxury wagon from Jaguar in 2001 and a sport wagon from Porsche-Volkswagen. High gasoline prices and driving preferences are reasons Europeans have little interest in trucks. Volvo is planning to incorporate more sport-utility design elements into its redesigned V70 Cross Country, due model year 2001. That means higher seating position, side cladding for off-road conditions, and interior use of canvas and storage netting.
