ABSTRACT
The article reports on the settlement of a lawsuit filed by Carol Matthews, former advertising director for the magazine Vogue, against Richard Beckman, publisher of Conde Nast Publications. In June 1999, Beckman allegedly butted Matthews in the head into another female staffer's at a sales meeting in an attempt to get the two to kiss, and broke Matthews' nose. As part of the undisclosed settlement, Beckman was forced to apologize to Vogue staffers, many of whom were offended by the publisher's actions.
