ABSTRACT
The article reports that California state pro-gay Senator Debra Bowen is narrowly leading incumbent Bruce McPherson in some polls for secretary of state election. The secretary of state is California's chief elections officer, responsible for ensuring fair campaigning and voting practices across the state. McPherson has the support of the California Teachers Association and California Professional Firefighters. Bowen's campaign reaffirms her support for the LGBT community.
