ABSTRACT
The article reports that although the actual number of personal computers (PC) sales has increased, the revenues have decreased because of lower prices. According to George Shiffler, the Gartner research director, this trend will continue as PC replacement slows and the battle between Intel and AMD intensifies. He is skeptical about how much impact the release of Microsoft's latest system, Vista, will have on the market. Also in competition for PC purchases are lifestyle electronics, such as televisions, cell phones and electronic gaming devices.
