PBM transparency: More than meets the eye

The article discusses the difficulties encountered by pharmacy benefit managers with the pass-through pricing and transparency approach. As a result, numerous litigations and claims have cost both plan sponsors and the pharmacy benefit managers. The industry has undergone a transformation in response to this concern. Pass-through pricing contracts are offered wherein plan sponsors are billed for actual amount charged by retail pharmacies for drugs and dispensing fees and get 100 percent rebate.
