ABSTRACT
The article focuses on a trend in Broadway musical productions to forego big-budget extravaganzas in favor of smaller, edgier, and even more traditional shows. Of particular focus is the stage production of "Mary Poppins," recently premiering in the U.S., which is seeking to buck that trend with its big-budget production and visuals. A quick overview of the show is presented. Also discussed as representative of the smaller, edgier musicals is the production "The Times They Are A-Changin'."
