The article reports on the rules on the surfactants linear alkyl sulphonate (LAS) and linear alkyl benzene (LAB) concluded during the World Conference on Detergents in Montreux, Switzerland. LAS was described as "one of the most extensively studied chemicals in commerce," while LAB had also been assessed in the European Union's risk assessment programme. LAB and LAS are used in the production of detergents.
