ABSTRACT
The article discusses the author's experience spending Christmas in Vallejo, California during the Depression. She was married to a man in the U.S. Navy. They were able to find a furnished room with a shared bath and kitchen where they had to pay $25 a month which was a big part of their $80 monthly salary. She decided to buy a leg of lamb for their Christmas dinner that cost $1.25 in those days. They both enjoyed a large slice that evening. The next morning she was in tears to find out that cats had eaten the leg of lamb.
