ABSTRACT
The article focuses on a case report involving the effect of the drug dapsone in treating Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia in a child. Dapsone was administered to an 11-year-old boy with a history of chronic immune thrombocytopenic purpura. Within 24 hours, the patient had blue lips. Two days prior to dapsone initiation, the cotrimoxazole prophylaxis of the child was discontinued. The patient developed methaemoglobinaemia.
