ABSTRACT
This article reports on the selection of DDB Worldwide, New York to handle the post-merger branding assignment for Exxon Corp. and Mobil Corp. Agency contracts cannot be finalized until after the deal is approved by the Federal Trade Commission, but executives close to the companies said DDB will create the first branding work for the soon-to-be renamed Exxon Mobil Corp. Spending for the assignment was undisclosed. Together, Exxon and Mobil spent $81 million on measured advertising in 1998. DDB has handled Mobil since 1949, while McCann-Erickson Worldwide in Houston, Texas, has managed Exxon's advertising strategy since 1912.
