ABSTRACT
The author relates his experience as a saloonsman at the Buford ship heading for Skagway, Alaska. He began writing on a journal from the time he lost his job as a reporter of the newspaper "Times" to his voyage to Alaska. The editor of the newspaper asserts that his dismissal from the newspaper was not a reflection on his writing ability. He worked for the newspaper "Post-Intelligencer" for one week as a substitute for a reporter. He cites the significance of working in a ship.
