ABSTRACT
The article discusses the growing possibilities of voice over wireless local area networks (VoWLANs). WLAN switches have several advantages such as radio frequency coordination and speedy handoffs. Radio networks operate through free space and must be encrypted for security. Handoff times can vary depending on the encryption technique that is used. Several concerns regarding WLAN voice is load balancing, a short battery life, and call access control. Companies such as Cisco and Siemens are leading the networking market with switching technology. INSET: So How Many Calls Can You Support?.
