ABSTRACT
The article narrates the author's experience in working together with Irving Berlin, composer and lyricist, on a musical show for the Marx Brothers in Atlantic City, New Jersey. He states that Berlin woke him up at five o'clock to let him hear a song he just composed. He also remembers the times Berlin taught him about music. He stresses that Berlin influenced him to become interested in lyrics, as well as to identify the quality of lyrics.
