ABSTRACT
The article discusses the falling employment in the retail trade. In retailing, the focus is presently on productivity. This has changed the business model for retailing. Technology has played a part at all levels in the retail trade. It has allowed retailers to grow their business without having to grow employment. This business model has its own disadvantages.
