ABSTRACT
This article focuses on the situation in Afghanistan, where the Taliban has resurfaced five years after being toppled by the U.S. invasion of 2001. The author claims the resurgence of the Taliban is partly due to the U.S.'s definition of its original mission, which was to strike the Taliban and not get stuck with nation-building. In the Taliban's retreat, warlords have reestablished themselves, only a small force of soldiers remains, and the government of Hamid Karzai has been unable to extend beyond Kabul.
