ABSTRACT
The article discusses the emergence of dual-mode telephones that support cellular calls and Internet protocol in universities in the U.S. Difficulties in ensuring ample bandwidth, security, coverage and seamless hand offs between cellular and Wireless-Fidelity (WiFi) networks plagued the infancy stage of the phone, requiring more extensive testings. The students' inclination to all-in-one mobile devices and their WiFi and cost-efficiency features would boost dual-mode phones towards market popularity. 76 percent of large companies in the country anticipate at least some of their mobile workers to use dual-mode telephones. INSETS: CALLING FOR A REALITY CHECK;MAKING DOLLARS AND SENSE OF CELLULAR;GOING TO TOWN.
