ABSTRACT
The article reports on the opening of the Wool Technical Center in Ilkley, England. The Center was built and operated by the International Wool Secretariat (IWS) for the woolgrowers of Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. The Center consists of a laboratory block of 45,000 square feet and a pilot plant of 55,000 square feet, for the operations of industrial wool textile. It was developed to improve processes and products designed to make wool more competitive in the world's multi-fiber textile industry. According to William Gunn, chairman of the IWS and of the Australian Wool Board, the establishment of the Center is a representation of the industry's goal to strengthen and to improve the wool industry.
