ABSTRACT
The article presents three cases of human T-cell lymphotropic virus type 1-associated adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL) found in three Inuit women from Nunavut. One patient presented with a 2-week history of malaise, pain in the right upper abdominal quadrant and mild jaundice. The other patient exhibited a nonspecific eczematous follicular dermatitis, while the other one presented with fever and shortness of breath.

Background: Human T-cell leukemia virus type 1 (HTLV-1) is the causative agent of adult T-cell leukemia and tropical spastic paraparesis. HTLV-1 encodes transactivator protein Tax that interacts with various cellular factors to modulate transcription and other biological functions. Additional...

p13II of human T-cell leukemia virus type 1 (HTLV-1) is an 87-amino-acid protein that is targeted to the inner mitochondrial membrane. p13II alters mitochondrial membrane permeability, producing a rapid, membrane potential-dependent influx of K+. These changes result in increased mitochondrial...

Adult T cell leukemia (ATL) is an aggressive neoplasm of mature helper T cell, which is etiologically linked with human T-lymphotropic virus type I (HTLV-I). We studied HTLV-I provirus in 61 cases of ATL with Southern blot analyses and long PCR. These methods detected defective virus in 34 cases...

The article presents case studies of adult T-cell leukemia lymphoma (ATLL) in India. It reports the implication of Human T Lymphotropic Virus type I (HTLV-I) in the pathogenesis of ATLL in which 2% of HTLV-I infected patients develop ATLL and 95% show serologic evidence of HTLV-I. It mentions...
