ABSTRACT
The article presents an outline of a five-stage post-operative gastric bypass diet program of patients at the Tufts-New England Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. The goals of the early post-operative diet are to insure adequate hydration and protein intake, and to promote gentle, deliberate eating. The five stages include, water, clear liquids, sugar-free, nonfat full liquids, pureed or ground protein foods, and low-fat, healthy meal plan.
