ABSTRACT
The article presents information on the container shipping industry in 2006. It discusses the loss of market share as a result of the acquisition of P&O Nedlloyd by A. P. Moller-Maersk and the merger of Hapag-Lloyd and CP Ships which has produced mixed results. It discusses the effects of these mergers and the rapid expansion of services. It also describes the changes in the ranking of the container shipping companies as a result of industry movements.
