The article addresses the alleged monopoly of the chemical-based consumer products business by some U.S. retail stores. Major U.S. retail chain stores are putting increasing pricing pressure on producers of chemical-based consumer products, pinching margins and even dictating formulations in a trend that industry officials say could stifle innovation. The major retailers, known as big box stores because their outlets often occupy most of a city block, include Wal-Mart, Target and Costco.
