ABSTRACT
The article reports on the use of electronic controls to enhance battery management of portable and rechargeable devices. It states that electronic controls can improve efficiency and life of batteries while promoting safety and security of consumers. Charge termination and fast charging features maintain longer battery service life while authentication of packs to prevent battery cloning ensures consumer protection. It also mentions the importance of meeting customer requirements such as runtime estimation, where user will be informed about the time left that the device can be use before it runs out of battery.
