ABSTRACT
This article reports on the impact of consumer-driven healthcare on hospital pricing strategies. The main goal of current hospital pricing systems is the reimbursement of the hospital for the cost of labor, supplies, and other expenses involved in patient care. The author details how medical bills have become so high for uninsured patients and describes a number of factors that are converging that will bring more consumer influence to the selection, purchase, and use of health services and products.
