ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the role of endothelin in increasing complications in cirrhosis. It is to be noted that altered local vascular tone is responsible for important complications of cirrhosis. It has been discovered that increase in the production of Endothelin 1 results in portal hypertension. Thus, endothelin contributes to an increase in intrahepatic vascular tone in cirrhosis.
