ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the efforts of U.S. cable networks to offer new video-on-demand content. Nielsen Media Research reported a significant increase in video-on-demand (VOD) viewership between September 2003 and December 2005. Home Box Office Inc. has about 30 motion pictures on VOD at any given time, and it refreshes 25 percent of them every 4 weeks. Cablevision Systems Corp. expanded its Cinemax On Demand lineup to 150 hours in April 2006. Most networks offer streaming programming on their Web sites.
