The article focuses on Kicks for Kids, a program started by U.S. Army Reservist Addie Collins in Iraq in 2004. Its aim is to provide Iraqi children with shoes donated by U.S. citizens who wish to contribute to the war effort. Collins, who was deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, was looking for a way to give back individually because she felt the situation was going out of control.
