ABSTRACT
Studies the effects of tax rates and dividend payouts on common stock returns. Effects of the Tax Reform Act of 1986 changes to the relative taxation of dividends and capital gains on firms with high and low dividend yields; High-dividend yield firms outperforming low-yield firms due to the existence of tax clienteles; Negligible effects of the tax clientele on small firms.
