ABSTRACT
The article focuses on laminated veneer lumber (LVL). A project that focused on the use of LVL as the primary material for an innovative form of construction have been completed by students at Victoria University School of Architecture in New Zealand. The course started with site visits to a major sawmill in Rotorua and a plywood manufacturer in Tokoroa. A design brief were given to students when they had grasped the limitations and the possibilities of the materials to be used. It discusses the three main innovative features involved in the course.
