ABSTRACT
This article reports on a plan by the U.S. Army to field a new unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and buy additional Hunters, Shadow-200. U.S. soldiers in Iraq are about to receive a new intelligence-gathering tool, a small, hand-launched unmanned aircraft that could prove useful in trying to thwart the persistent insurgent attacks military forces are exposed to. The Army UAV that have been operating in Iraq largely serve higher command echelons. However, that should change with the fielding of Raven, a 4.5-pound., 4.5-foot-wingspan small UAV, which is slated to be deployed with Army units in a few weeks.
