ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the partnership between Microsoft Corp. and Nortel. The deal positions Nortel as the core call control and systems integration partner that will assist the Microsoft's unified communications (UC) software into the enterprise networks. The strategic alliance effort includes joint research and development, cross-licensing of each other's intellectual property and collaboration on products, technology and on services integration. The technology used would allow enterprise customers to deploy the Nortel CS 1000 and Microsoft Live Communication Server and have a migration path to a future where the new Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 may be used with business process applications. The UC announcement is seen as a market-overhang strategy.
