ABSTRACT
The article reports on the projection by the International Data Corp. (IDC) that U.S. residential subscribers to Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) services will grow by a factor of four by the year 2010, while VOIP use of all broadband households will rise by 62 percent by the end of the decade. The improvement of residential VOIP will occur as setup and hardware requirements become simpler and as users look for a service that can add mobility capability. Will Stofega, research manager at IDC, said that potential growth opportunity for providers that are able to tweak their service offering to fit the tastes of the mass market looks promising.
