ABSTRACT
The article reports that the film adaptation of Philip Pullman's The Golden Compass, starring Nicole Kidman, will begin shooting in September 2006. Overwhelmed by the scope of the production, New Line writer-director Chris Weitz dropped out in 2004. Several years after New Line got involved, Weitz is back on board and ready to deliver a PG-13 version of one of the darkest works of children's fiction.
