ABSTRACT
This article reports on the legal scandal facing Interpublic Group of Cos. following the termination of Michael Kassan, who filed a suit against the media company in the U.S. in August 1999. The suit, alleging breach of contract and defamation of character, seeks $13.5 million in damages. A separate arbitration action in Los Angeles, California seeks an addition $50 million. Like Interpublic's legal battle against former Lowe & Partners/SMS chairman Marvin Sloves, the Kassan controversy seems more likely to be resolved in a courtroom than over a negotiating table.
