ABSTRACT
The article explores the principle of operation of switched capacitor converter. The converter, also known as a charge pump, is used as an alternative method of boosting the battery voltage that drives white light emitting diodes in portable applications. A capacitor stores electric energy that is released at some predetermined rate and time. Real capacitors have Equivalent Series Resistance and Equivalent Series Inductance that does not affect the ability of the capacitor to store energy. However, those features affect the overall efficiency of the switched capacitor voltage converter.
