ABSTRACT
The article reports on the effects of the shift in West Coast containerization volume from the Pacific Northwest to California on railroads and marine terminal operators. The shift serves as a warning to railroads and marine terminal operators that additional capacity will be needed in Los Angeles. Long Beach, Oakland as the peak season approaches. During the first half of the year, container volume has increased by 5.3 percent in Tacoma but decreased by 3.9 percent in Seattle.
