The article provides updates on the use of conservation easements in the U.S. Earlier, local leaders began establishing funds to be used for conservation easements or purchases of property. Government officials are also using them to preserve farmland and open space in more rural parts of the country. Later on, a growing number of real estate developers started using conservation easements as an approach to speeding up approval of their projects and to give homeowners open space and trails. According to Land Trust Alliance director of information services, high standards can help ensure public confidence and the long-term preservation of land.
