ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the changes in the purchasing process in the retail trade over the years. Merchant-buyer is referred to an executive entrusted with the task of buying merchandise for a retail store. These merchant-buyers made all decisions related to the procurement. Nowadays, merchant-buyers have been replaced by retail buying groups.
