This article presents news briefs related to the chemical industry. Middle East polymers and solvents trade has been hit by the armed conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, based in Lebanon, with traders and suppliers saying they are uncertain about vessel availability and the direction of demand. Meanwhile, Chinese Petroleum Corp., the Taiwanese energy major, declared a force majeure on the output from one of its paraxylene (PX)/orthoxylene (OX) lines. The No. 3 line at Kaohsiung can produce 260 000 tonne/year of PX and 70 000 tonne/year of OX. In another news, China's polymers output rose 21.2% to 12.2m tonne in the first half of this year, compared with the same period a year ago, according to the National Bureau of Statistics. In the same period, the country's ethylene production rose 18.2% to 4.3m tonne.
